The GEN Foundation Uganda is the official Host for the GEW (Global Entrepreneurship Week) in Uganda.
The host organization is Enterprise Uganda which is a well known Entrepreneurial endorser in the country.
Global Entrepreneurship Week will inspire millions of young people across the globe to
unleash their entrepreneurial ideas - to make a profit and to address society’s biggest
issues. Every November, Global Entrepreneurship Network celebrates Entrepreneurship through helping
millions of people unleash their ideas to start and scale new businesses through the #GEW - Global Entrepreneurship Week.
The campaign began in 2008 with an emphasis on inspiring young people to make their mark and has quickly grown to become a comprehensive effort that engages entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers, support organizations and others collaborating to advance economic growth and innovation in more than 170 countries around the world.
Roughly 400,000 events and competitions take place during #GEW connecting nearly 10 million participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors. Dozens of world leaders on every continent and a network of more than 15,000 partner organizations support the initiative every year.
You can take part by organizing an event or activity during GEW in your local area, you will help strengthen your local start-up ecosystem while being part of a global movement celebrated in more than 170 countries.
Just about anything counts as an event e.g. Start-up pitch competitions, Entrepreneurship film festivals, Hack-a-thons, Speaker series. Policy round-tables, Research summit. Hands-on workshops. Online discussions. Quizzes. Tours. GEW
events and activities span the entire entrepreneurial ecosystem.
A social media campaign is run every year through the host (ENTERPRISE UGANDA) social media platforms i.e Twitter @EntUganda, Instagram @enterpriseuganda and Facebook @Enterprise Uganda under the hashtags #GEWUG OR #GEW(with the respective year). these social media campaigns engage tons of social media users and evoke an entrepreneurial spirit in them amidst their leisure time and some even find the urge to participate and take part in the celebrations. Youth are mostly the target audience with these campaign and to spread the work and achievements of Entrepreneurship in Uganda.
