WASHINGTON, DC – April 7, 2021 – The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) announced that Kathryn Forrest has joined the organization as Manager for Communications where she will help shape and amplify the network’s stories, brand and impact worldwide. She began the assignment on April 1.
By bringing Forrest onboard, GEN is strengthening its capacity and skillset to share success stories and best practices for supporting entrepreneurs around the world. Forrest will be working across GEN programs and collaborating with partners and members across 180 countries to celebrate and elevate their contributions to the global entrepreneurship community.
“Entrepreneurs and those that support them are busy getting things done,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. “At GEN, we’re proud to share their successes with the world as an inspiration and even a roadmap for others. Kathryn’s impressive track record in journalism and strategic communications in the entrepreneurship space makes her an excellent addition to our team. With her help, we can shine a brighter spotlight on these stories.”
Forrest is a trained journalist with over seven years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, content creation and supporting entrepreneurs. Before joining GEN, she managed and supported communications campaigns for clients across industries including cyber defense, wind and solar energy, education and entrepreneurship.
Forrest is also the former Communications and Marketing Manager for Startup Canada, where she played a significant role in strengthening Canada’s national entrepreneurship ecosystem. Over four years, she gave thousands of entrepreneurs a voice to industry, media and government by leading digital campaigns, cross-country tours and town halls.
Forrest was also Startup Canada’s representative to GEN Policy. She attended the 2016 Startup Nations Summit in Ireland and spoke onstage about Canada’s entrepreneurship community at the 2017 Startup Nations Summit in Estonia.
"My position at GEN is a marriage of two passions: supporting entrepreneurs and sharing stories that inspire others to make a real impact,” said Forrest. “I look forward to amplifying the incredible work GEN is doing around the world.”
Kathryn has a Combined Honours B.A. in Journalism and Communications Studies from Carleton University, Canada's top journalism school. Her work has been published by Canada’s top news publications including The Globe and Mail and The National Post.
